It's safe to say I don't follow much in the way of competition drifting. I find single runs of consistently placing your car on a point, with minor variation a bit boring. However I do very much follow single drivers, and have a special affinity for drivers who push their, and their machines limits.
If you're into that kind of driver, you've probably heard of Adam Maciejewski. He's probably best known for his insanely obnoxiously loud RX7 at Next Level Drift in 2018, appearing on the Hoonigan Bonus channel with his own feature. But there's more to Adam than just a loud, slow car.
Adam really had no specific route into drifting. He spent endless hours playing Gran Turismo with his makeshift simulator, and binge watching Initial D before he finally saw drifting in real life for the first time in 2010 at JDM All Stars. Him seeing Dan Chapman in his PS13, and Duane Mckeever in his S13 Hatch, had him hooked. There was nothing else to do for Adam now other than buy a car, and put in the time.
Whilst trawling the internet for a BMW E30, his friend Chris sent him an RX7 FC for sale "I couldn't believe how cheap it was and despite knowing nothing about rotaries, I went ahead and called the guy and dropped a deposit that same day" were Adam's exact words.
This RX7 turned out to be the same one we all know and love him for today, the same car featured on Hoonigan, and driven within an inch of its life every single event.
Now, Adam, being a painter by trade wasn't going to let this car look tatty for long. He set to work making it a nice thing to look at, this has almost become Adam's staple. Buy a car, mechanically build it, make it look gorgeous and show worthy, drive it with not a single care.
Every single time I have seen Adam drive, he's like a man possessed, throwing down harder than just about everyone at the event, in a car that is immaculately prepared and fantastically set up. The wall isn't an option to him, it's a necessary clip for every day he drives. I will link a selection of videos from his and other Youtube channels below if you too want to marvel at his fantastically aggressive driving.
Adam hasn't exclusively used his RX7 though. He built an amazing turbo MK1 MX5, with a MK2.5 Front end swap (Pictured above). This made a little under 300 horsepower, and with the Destroy or Die Super Knuckles it was quite the force to be reckoned with. Pushing around much bigger faster cars at every event, and going from beautiful to battered at the same time. Only for Adam to bring it back to life between the events he attended.
He has also, more recently Purchased a 1989 200SX S13 which he has since painted, and sadly spun a bottom end bearing. Also he has finally scratched that itch and got himself a BMW E30!
These 2 cars are his quarantine projects. hopefully fixing his bottom end issues and making the E30 as pretty as the rest of his fleet, he should be back to his old ways shortly after we escape the lockdown!
Thank you for reading, stay in, stay safe, stay aggressive.
