Scott Murrel's RX7 FC

Vehicle Feature

So I want to talk about cars. It's all well and good me talking endlessly about the people that make drifting great, but it's the cars that are what interest people.

Let's face it, if you are the world's greatest driver, but have the most battered car in history, no-one is going to bat an eye.

I want to talk about builds I'm excited by. Not necessarily for their innovation, performance, insanity, but for their sheer coolness. Being cool is subjective sure, but this RX7 is undoubtedly 'cool'.

Honestly, this car excites me because I've been there from the start. I went with Scott on the first viewing of it, all the way to the other side of wales, to drag it out of a storage unit, and just have a look. This wasn't a barn find, it was just a car that someone had bought because it was cool, and not done anything with.

It had a pair of Cosmis wheels fitted on one side, so on the test drive, the grip bias made things unusual, to say the least. 18-inch wheels on the left and 15 on the right, certainly gave an odd handling characteristic.

You see, at the time, I had not long sold my FC Turbo ii. So I was as close as Scott had to an 'RX7 specialist'. And despite knowing nothing other than 'Dorito go brap brap' he took me along for the ride, to confirm this car wasn't a total lemon.

Scott was in love at first sight, and to be totally honest so was I. I was ready to buy this Mazda had he not. As after the 2 weeks I had been without one, I was already regretting it.

So, as it sits right now, this little Mazda is already shaping up to be cooler than a polar bear's toenails.

I can't even look at the spec list without having a crisis. Some of the parts on this gorgeous vehicle are just to die for. Right down to the Spats bucket seat, and the 1990's 2 post Momo steering wheel.

Scott's RX7 is far from finished, but at this point in his build I feel it is worth appreciating just how much work is already in this vehicle.

Scott originally bought the RX7 as when he was younger his brother had one. He was inspired to do a similar build, one that was retro-cool and useable at the same time! Honestly, his brother's old car is perfect as far as non-turbo RX7 FC's go to me. It really makes me smile to see these old, largely disregarded chassis used to their full style and performance potential.

I for one am excited to see what Scott makes of his frankly awesome machine. Intrigued to see what colour/s it ends up, and how he uses it. Knowing Scott the car will be used properly, alongside being an incredibly pretty showpiece.

We will continue to follow this build as it develops, and hopefully get some footage of it doing cool things in the future.

As always, stay home, stay safe, and stay stylish.
